History of NedRink
In 2000, the Peak to Peak
Healthy Community Project conducted a Nederland community survey that included
parks and recreation questions. The most popular and requested "additional recreation
opportunity" was a local ice rink, receiving nearly 40% of all requests. The
Town of Nederland later adopted the Open Space, Trails, Parks and Outdoor Recreation
Plan, where a primary goal was the development of an outdoor skating rink.
The town of Nederland ("Gateway
to the Indian Peaks") has always attracted people who value and participate
in all types of outdoor recreation. NedRink will provide new recreational opportunities
to our community, serve as a meeting place for families, and provide a new way
to teach children the joy of being outside (especially in winter).
There's a lot more to write
about the how the park came to be, and the tireless volunteers that helped out,
but since we're currently pretty much exhausted with the recent push to get
the park open, we'll have to wait a bit to get around to documenting this.
